One of the most beloved sites on the Eastern Shore is the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, where the annual Pony Swim and Auction takes place. This event was made famous by author Margurite Henry's Misty of Chincoteague. Walk on Assateague's beaches and watch wild ponies feeding on the wild marsh grasses.
