BIRD IN HAND follows ‘Bird Rowe’ (ALISHA WAINWRIGHT) as she searches for a wedding venue in her hometown and is thrust back into a tumultuous relationship with her mother ‘Carlotta’ (CHRISTINE LAHTI). Bird also has a hidden agenda – to connect with her biological father, whom she has never met. A taught, intimate film with a biting sense of humor, BIRD IN HAND explores generational cycles of identity, both real and imagined. Writer-director Melody Roscher, a Richmond local, is an accomplished filmmaker as a producer, having worked with filmmakers such as Antonio Campos (CHRISTINE, SIMON KILLER), Josh Mond (JAMES WHITE), Sean Durkin (MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE), and Andrew Jarecki (HBO’s THE JINX). As a director, her acclaimed short film WHITE WEDDING premiered at Sundance in 2021 and has gone on to play at film festivals all over the world.
