Richmond – Pre-release screening of “A Case for Love” at Byrd Theatre Sept 16 – Free

New Hanover Church is sponsoring a  FREE special pre-release showing of “A Case For Love” at The Byrd Theatre in Richmond, VA on Monday September 16th at 6:30pm

The film is a heartfelt, moving documentary showing the power of unselfish love.  Film director Brian Ide will present an exclusive and free pre-release showing of his movie, A Case For Love, on Monday September 16th at The Byrd Theatre, 6:30pm, in Carytown. The film is inspired by the teachings of Bishop Michael Curry, the current Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, and the first African American to serve in that role. He is most well-known for delivering a passionate 14-minute sermon, titled “The Power of Love”, at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the most watched event in history. That sermon, along with the bulk of his teachings and writings, focused on the redemptive power of unselfish love, i.e., doing for others while expecting nothing in return. Furthermore, he elaborated that a personal practice of unselfish love can positively transform each of us, those around us, and by extension, the world.

Dr. Robert Johnson, Pastor at New Hanover Church, and film director Brian Ide will be present to lead a Q&A after the screening.

Regarding this film screening Dr. Johnson thinks the timing and theme of this movie is critically important in today’s climate of mistrust and division. “When it appears that so many of us don’t have anything in common, and by default we separate ourselves into divisive camps, this movie is a powerful reminder that love, not hate, wins in the end. That love really can be that bridge between us, no matter who we are.”
